This position is responsible for the production of optical assemblies.
The Assembly Tech also participates in process development and process improvement on all-optical assembly products with the goal of improving yield, reducing manufacturing cycle time, and developing tooling.
The individual will interface with sales, marketing, thin-film coating, purchasing, and others on a routine basis to provide information for quotations.
Assembly Tech Requirements
Two-year degree in manufacturing, engineering or physical sciences preferred
Minimum 10 years of experience in precision mechanical component manufacturing.
High school diploma coupled with a strong math background and 10 or more years in similar roles may also be sufficient.
Extensive knowledge of precision optical manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly techniques
Broad experience with optical and assembly tooling, tool design, and optical characterization/inspection techniques
Ability to develop new processes in an abbreviated time frame
Adept in the use of various machinery including Blanchard grinders, surface grinders, double-lap grinders, spindle grinders and polishers, lathes, and planetary polishers
Knowledgeable in the theory and practice of essential measuring devices such as Zygo interferometers, Davidson interferometers, Nikon autocollimators, rotary tables, non-contact measurement systems, use of test plates with green light, extinction ratio testing, and drop gauge, as well as all assembly equipment
Good writing skills for reporting and documentation
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
