3/1/2013 Salvo Defense Begins Six Sigma Implementation

March 28, 2015

Largo, FL—Salvo Defense LLC, the engineering services division of the Salvo Technologies LLC group of companies, today announced the implementation of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles and methods into its product design and manufacturing processes. In today’s marketplace, globalization imposes ever higher standards on company output; quality, speed, and on time delivery have become even more important to a company’s success. Six Sigma is used by business and industry to streamline processes and ensure quality results while reducing costs. When combined with customer input, Six Sigma methods allow companies to achieve huge increases in productivity and customer satisfaction.

These projects involve the majority of the business areas and have been appropriately structured in five phases (define, measure, analyze, improve, control). “At Salvo Defense, we are Implementing Six Sigma for the benefit of our customers and our company,” said Paul Chung, senior program manager at Salvo Defense and certified black belt trainer. “I’ve observed the benefits of instituting Six Sigma processes to be reducing scrap, reducing downtime, reducing returns, reducing rework and shortening the work cycle time.” In addition to the Six Sigma implementation Salvo Defense has also embraced lean manufacturing techniques. By creating optimal work flow, and completing 5S and Kaizen events in key areas Salvo Defense has created a more efficient production area that allows for less inventory for both internal and external customer. “By combining Six Sigma and lean manufacturing in concert, we are able to maximize value added procedures and minimize waste” said Patrick Bass operations manager at Salvo Technology and lean manufacturing sensei. “At Salvo we have a strong commitment to these principles at all levels of the organization and our customers have seen the improvements on their end with less variation in lead time and quicker turnaround on orders.” From one piece prototypes to high volume production lines, Salvo Defense can now meet any production requirement. The company is capable of machining a wide variety of materials and products, including precision glass and crystals, castings, forgings, aerospace alloys, and plastics. Credit goes to a staff committed to the implementation of Lean and Six Sigma methodology, the extremely efficient approach to address today’s dynamic market.
